Sustainable Nantucket

Sustainable Nantucket (SN) was established in 2000 with a mission to preserve and strengthen the community character and economic and environmental vitality of Nantucket. SN is a grassroots, local non-profit organization that works to develop a self-reliant food system on the island. SN helps raise awareness about local food, connect consumers to local sources, advocate for greater local production, and assist growers and food producers in accessing resources and expanding markets.

The advantages of local food access are numerous, including improving public health and nutrition, reclaiming the agricultural market as an economic driver on the island, and building food security and food sovereignty. Sustainable Nantucket’s mission is to maintain the community’s character while sustaining its economic and environmental vigor.

SN is striving to build a local, self-reliant food economy that integrates sustainable food production, processing, distribution, and consumption. This will benefit the island’s economic, environmental, and social health and improve its long-term sustainability.

The Sustainable Nantucket Farmers and Artisans Market is held every Saturday from June to October, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, along Cambridge Street. This outdoor seasonal market offers up to 60 talented vendors and farmers and is a great opportunity to experience the best of local farms and craftspeople.
