Over 45 years ago, a small store named Pam Lerner Jewelry was situated on the corner of Beacon and Centre Street in Newton Center. A 23-year-old girl from New York, Pam, started her career in the jewelry business by selling gold chains and her own pieces to women in the beauty parlor. Pam’s eye for style was so impressive that others began asking for the jewelry she was wearing, and she gladly obliged.

Not long after, a very pregnant Pam asked her brother George, who was making jewelry in California, for help. The store assumed a much larger life, now known as Pageo – a combination of Pam and George’s names.

Twenty-five years ago, they opened another shop on the Island of Nantucket, located between historic buildings on Main Street. Pageo quickly became a favorite among locals, tourists, and celebrities alike. The store offers a full range of jewelry services and is one of the top jewelry destinations on the island.

In 2020, Pageo expanded to a digital website featuring highly acclaimed jewelry designers. In addition, the store locations continue to create custom pieces for their clients.

At Pageo, they strive to ensure that their customers are happy with their experience. Pam and George take pride in seeing the familiar faces of those who have visited them since the small store, as well as the new faces of those who have just discovered them. This beloved family business continues to provide loyal service to all its customers.

Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals

Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals (NiSHA) was established in October 2011, right after the closure of the Nantucket MSPCA. A group of devoted volunteers created the new shelter to ensure every animal on the island was taken care of until they found their families or new homes.

The staff at NiSHA, are devoted to protecting animals and ensuring their wellbeing. They passionately strive to teach people about humane practices and spread awareness about animal welfare. Additionally, They offer a safe and caring home for animals who need it and promote animal welfare through education, advocacy, and outreach.

The shelter is located at 11 Crooked Lane, where they rent 5 rooms from Offshore Animal Hospital. They can house around 25 animals and use a network of foster homes to look after other animals.

The Town of Nantucket is proud to have NiSHA as their partner in this endeavor, and to be a part of the effort to provide a safe and loving home for these animals. NiSHA is an important part of the community and they are committed to making sure that these animals are given the best chance at a happy life.

No animal in need gets turned away. NiSHA never euthanizes for space, time, or resources. In addition, NiSHA strives to end the tragedies associated with pet overpopulation by encouraging spaying and neutering on Nantucket and in areas of the country where communities are still striving to solve this issue.

NiSHA endeavors to be Nantucket’s go-to animal welfare resource. They are the vanguard of humane education, advocacy, and outreach.
